Free Web Application of the Week: Photoshop.com provides free editing/storage

http://www.photoshop.com/
Recently I wiped my laptop clean of unnecessary programs in order to make it a lean, mean, word processing/browsing machine.

I also did it so it would force me to utilize free Web applications. We are no longer at the mercy of purchasing the latest edition of Microsoft Office. You can do any and every basic digital function for free these days.

So each week, I'm going to post about a Web application that I like or don't like. I'll go over how to use it as well and provide some other additional information.

For editing photos, photoshop.com has been my flavor of the month.

Photoshop.com
function: This site allows users to upload, store, edit and organize photos for free. You can resize, take out red eye, adjust brightness, sharpen, crop, and adjust the white balance of any photo using this editor, which is pretty similar to Photoshop Elements. Essentially, this program allows any amateur to do edit his/her photos.

This site allows you to organize and share photos, working with social networking sites like Facebook, Flickr, Picasa and Photobucket.

You can also create slideshows to include with your blog. Here's an example of the basic template available for the site's free version.

advantage: You can do all your photo editing from this free application. You can also download the Express Uploader  for free. This is a Flash item that allows you to quickly get your photos into the software for editing.

This application allows you to upload and edit your photos, then click a single button to send the photos directly to Facebook. You can also easily embed these photos into your blog or Web site without re-upload them.

disadvantage:  You have to sign up for an account, which can be cumbersome at times. But Adobe products are good lists to be on because they send you design tips. Also, you have to be signed online to use this program, which will be the case with most of the programs I'll be highlighting in this segment.

The slideshow creator is great, but you can't embed the Flash into your Web page. I prefer to embed. Also, the nicer slideshow options require paying.
