Adventures in teaching online news writing

I began an experiment today in teaching two of the HCISD Communications Department co-op students the skills of writing for an Internet audience.

These two students have been great working throughout this year on various projects. They are seniors at Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South. I expect both of them to excel through this short course, allowing them to start producing a lot of the written content for the Communications Department Website.


My hope is that this brief course, six lessons produced in Prezi, will be duplicated once the district launches its new content management system that will allow dozens of district employees and students to become online authors.

I produced the lessons in a single Prezi, incorporating multimedia (mostly photos and YouTube videos) and text. Once I have completed the course, I will add narration to the Prezi. I will also have to download and convert the YouTube videos so HCISD employees can view all the content behind the district's firewall.
